We're currently undertaking to resurface the face of the French Lake Dam. The district had to lower the water levels by 15 feet to allow us to be able to work. The general contractors have come in to remove the failing concrete, and as this is a remote location- we're shooting a dry method of Shotcrete with an engineered mix. The purpose of this project is to extend the economic life of the dam and to provide erosion control for downstream discharge. We're creating a weir to measure the outflow of the stream. BONUS! Fun Fact(s)- 1. French Lake, CA was formerly a California Gold Rush community. 2. The WORLD'S first long-distance telephone line operated between French Lake and French Corral, CA (58 miles west). The phone line was used to pass information regarding water flows from the lake for post-Gold Rush hydraulic mining.
