We recently completed a slope stabilization project for a residence impacted by actively creeping soil that caused settlement and cracks in driveways and backyard patios. The instability of the fill slope also posed risks to storm drainage systems and the residence itself.

Our team used shotcrete to reinforce the slope surface, preventing further soil erosion, and installed micropiles to underpin the south edge of the residence. This comprehensive solution not only stabilized the slope but also safeguarded the home and nearby infrastructure from future damage.

Helical Pier Installation for Drive Bridge on Mill Street

Helical piers are a versatile solution for creating strong, stable foundations, even in challenging conditions. At Madole Construction, we recently completed a project in Reno’s Airport District on Mill Street, where we installed helical piers for a drive bridge over a small creek. This bridge provides access to a building lot and required precision engineering to ensure long-term stability and durability.

For this project, we installed Supportworks HP350 helical piers using a hydraulic-powered rotary torque drive unit. The piers were advanced into the ground to an approximate depth of 14 feet, reaching stable soil layers capable of supporting the bridge’s design load. Shaft extensions were added as needed to achieve the required depth and torque, ensuring the piers could safely handle compressive loads of at least 59 kips. Each pier was carefully positioned and aligned, installed within three inches of the planned location and within two degrees of the specified angle to meet the exact design requirements. 

Helical piers are ideal for projects like this because they provide exceptional load-bearing capacity while minimizing environmental disruption, which is especially important near a creek. The hydraulic torque monitoring during installation ensured each pier met the required specifications for strength and stability. By combining precision placement, advanced engineering, and durable materials, we successfully delivered a stable foundation for the drive bridge, allowing for safe and reliable access to the building lot.
