Making Room for growth at UNR (Why Soil Nailing is on the upswing)
One of the challenges involved with all of this new growth is how to pack more buildings and facilities into ever more crowded pieces of real estate.
Madole Construction Co. Inc recently started working on a private student housing project across the street from the Lawlor Events Center. The project is comprised of a below ground parking structure and five stories of student housing units. The demand for new student housing necessitates a design that incorporates the entire lot as new building space.
There are unique challenges to building in these kind of conditions. The below grade portions of the building had to excavated vertical to depths over 20' deep. This kind of a situation requires that these slopes be protected and reinforced to protect construction workers and adjacent properties. Madole Construction Co. Inc crews began installing soil nails and shotcrete to reinforce the slope and make it safe for construction to proceed.
The challenge for this job was constructing a 280' long wall and keeping the finished surface within a 1" tolerance so that wall does not encroach on adjacent properties or the structural wall for the new building. I am very proud of the craftsmanship and professionalism our crews are demonstrating on this challenging project.
