Chimney Repairs at Historic Dollar House Tahoe City, Ca
Madole Construction was contracted to repair a chimney on this historical building that was built in 1914. This historically significant building is part of the Dollar Estate at Lake Tahoe.
The chimney on this building had started to fall away from the structure and toward the lake below. The current regulations do not allow for construction of wood burning fireplaces at Lake Tahoe, so to prevent losing this part of the structure a plan had to be developed to repair the existing chimney. A repair plan was developed by Marvin Davis and Associates from Reno.
The foundation for the chimney was underpinned and supported with 5 micropiles. The slope below also required support and was tied-back with 11 soil nails and a shotcrete wall. All of this work had to be completed with limited access and without destroying the sensitive ecology of the western shore of Lake Tahoe. The wall also had to be constructed in a manner to not detract from the shoreline views from the lake. Madole Construction proposed a shotcrete wall which provided the strength to support the slope but carved the face to match existing masonry walls on the site. The wall work was completed on the 23rd and 24th of May 2015.
